Project Brief
The way that the pedestrians interact with the site was an important factor of the design. This design of the library maintains and continues the existing flow of the circulation of both the public and the residence through the site to cause minimum interruption of the pedestrian circulation from the outside into the building and to bring in the natural way into the library that is easily accessible to welcome in the library users. The flow of circulation does not only remain on the same plane horizontally but also vertically to the upper level which follows the sloped site. To maintain the flow, despite the challenge of placing a library on a sloped site, this design maximizes the use of the site. Taking advantage of the sloped site, the design allows for both levels of the library to be accessible directly from a ground level from two different sides of different slope level by embedding the part of the building into the site. By embedding part of the library, it also allows for a gradual change of elevation to make the library less overwhelming vertically and make it much more human scale.

Site synthesis drawing (finding critical points):
Shows site relationship with the surroundings, and demonstrates the flow and the views into the site, public and private zone, and how they overlap.
