Project Brief
Libenský Most is a historical bridge of Prague, but due to its failing technical capacity, redesigning the bridge become a heated discussion. The design looks for a new connection that enhances the city by promoting a greater city-life while honoring the historical value of the bridge. To honor the historical value of the bridge, the journey around the pedestrian bridge becomes a Tribute to the bridge. It provides not only a beautiful view out to the river but also different visual perspectives into the bridge. While establishing a positive recognition of the bridge, the pedestrian bridge also provides multiple access to the Libensky Bridge through its connections around the site creating a welcoming environment into the site. The new addition of multi-functional building units adjacent to the pedestrian bridge is placed to invite back the urban lives that have been lost around the bridge, serving as an urban-connection between the two parts of the city that the bridge connects.
Sketches of initial ideas
Revisiting and studying how the bridge was already being used by the pedestrians also took a big part of the design proposal. According to the observation, people were using the bridge for running and biking taking the nice natural path that passes at on end of the bridge along the river. And during the warmer seasons, many people came by the riverside to tan, play volleyball, and to just sit to enjoy the natural site. Taking this into consideration the circular path around the Libensky bridge continues the natural path that many people use and enjoy for their runs and provides a park that people could easily access around the bridge.
